Computer Applications is a college prep level elective that begins Microsoft Word word processing and Microsoft Excel spreadsheets. The course begins with a quick review of the basics of these applications with which students should already have some experience from other classes in freshman and sophomore years. This course is designed to delve more deeply and in a more detailed style into both applications. The students will be introduced to the concepts of merging, columns, clipart, styles, and advanced formatting techniques. The second trimester is designed to provide an overall mastery of word processing and advanced spreadsheets and charting. This will involve use of the complete Microsoft PowerPoint presentation program and macros. The third trimester returns to the final mastery of long documents in MSWord with special emphasis on Indexes, Tables of Content, Bookmarks, and Styles. It will introduce Microsoft Access Database, MS Publisher, and HTML programming. We will also introduce topics from the Macromedia Suite. A substantial use of the Internet occurs in all three trimesters. Advanced Computer Projects is offered at the honors level to juniors who have successful completed this course with an A average.
Class Announcements
5/10
You can still submit stuff after that 5/9 due date... just subtract 10% from your score each day for POSTER, HTML and POWERPOINT. Any of the older stuff is worth 50% if you submit anything that was missing.
EXTRA TIME FOR EXAM?
The rest of the Exam is due FRIDAY 5/9.Please note: I will be in by 8AM Tuesday morning, but the Tuesday PM helpclass is cancelled.I will be in by 8AM Thursday morning, but Friday morning is Knights.During the day, come any time EXCEPT "F" period; also, although I will be here for "A" period, I may have to cover a class in another room, so that would not be your best choice. Be extra quiet during Ms DeGeorge's class "C" and "E" - remember, she doesn't HAVE to let you stay. Please check the class website for EXAM GRADES: and EXTRA EXAM POINTS: Finally, don't forget the rest of your 5 summaries, due by May 15th.
REMINDER:School Policy-FINAL GRADES-
If the student begins the year doing well but then falls off drastically in the final marking period, he cannot expect to receive an average of all these grades. As a general rule, any student who fails both the final marking period and the final exam will fail the course regardless of earlier grades.
While a D is a passing grade, it should be interpreted as an indication of less than acceptable work. A D does not average out with an F to a passing grade. If a student receives an F in any trimester or on the final exam, he would need at least one C in some other trimester to have a passing average. A student with three Ds and one F in his trimester and exam grades would receive an F for the final grade in that course.
This optional assignment will be averaged with your original 100 point grade on QUIZ1.HTM&LINKING.HTM.
Create another Webpage. Follow the same instructions as QUIZ1.HTM, except for the following:
-SAVE AS QUIZ2.HTM
-Change topics of Parts 1-2-3 to
Part 1. The importance of following directions
Part 2. Steps to follow when studying
Part 3. Advantages of taking good notes.
-You MUST use one of the new topics found below in "Fun with HTML"
-You must include an inline image
-You must include a link
You should have gotten the Exam Review Sheet from the shared directory, but it is posted at the bottom of this page in the files section.
Additionally, I have also posted there copies of the original JANUARY.XLS, TOM'S.XLS and FOLLOW-UP.XLS in case you want to practice them at home.
Best practice for PowerPoint is to try the Extra Credit by using all the items listed on your review sheet. I will only grade the extra credit if you submit (at right) to GroupFusion by Wednesday (yes, that's a change) at noon. So if you use it to practice, but don't want it graded, then just don't send it!
Flower of the month - Daisy
Daisies are an easy to grow perennial that brightens the flower garden and is great for indoor vases and arrangements. While there are dozens of varieties, the most popular are the Shasta Daisy (shown above) and African Daisies. Daisies are among the most popular of flowers of both gardeners. And they are perfect for beginning gardeners and those whose thumb is not too green!
2008-2009 Computer Projects (Apps II)
Congratulations to the following students. You have been INVITED to sign up for next year's Computer II course.
You choose a non-profit organization (Maybe Seton Hall Prep?) and they become part of the list of organizations that get donations based on the number of users the GOODSEARCH engine collects. No fee...
I will begin by grading the ones that are submitted, but expect me to grade yours ready-or-not on December 21 AM.
If you didn't submit it yet, don't worry, I submitted the one that was in your APPS directory on 12/21. If you are still working at home, submit it when you're done. If I didn't grade the first one yet, I will grade the one you send.
Pet Newsletter
Ok, OK, so you were ALL right & I was wrong. The MARGINS for PET NEWSLETTER are:
LEFT & RIGHT = 1.25" TOP & BOTTOM = 1.00"
Please make the change on your sheet and in your document, even if you already handed in your paper.
Please submit your file at right, and I will grade those this weekend (12/15-16) at home. But ready-or-not, I will start to grade the rest of them 12/18 AM, even if you didn't hand your paper in by then.

about emails
Please remember when writing to me or ANY teacher...
I am your teacher, not your friend. Do not use slang. Use proper grammer and spelling and punctuation. And have a proper tone of respect in the emails.
This ALSO applies to any assignments on POSTING BOARDS.
Finally, stop with the complaints and the whining. You KNOW that you have HOMEWORK EVERYDAY: READ GROUP FUSION! You also know that "I DIDN'T KNOW" is NEVER an acceptable excuse.
